Ann was introduced to woodworking and woodworking tools by her father in his small shop. Years later, while living in Santa Fe, N.M., she knocked on the door of a custom woodworking shop and asked if she could apprentice. Soon Ann was a full time employee learning on the job in a shop that did very fine custom cabinetry, furniture and architectural woodwork. In 1980 Ann moved to Maine to do a 2 year wooden boat building apprenticeship. Following her apprenticeship she worked for a home building company/school, where she was part of the building crew and taught woodworking classes.
In 1985 Ann joined Lynette Breton to form Breton-Flannery Woodworks. For 10 years with up to 4 employees they produced custom cabinetry, furniture and architectural woodwork out of their Freeport, Maine shop.
Ann maintains a custom woodworking shop at her home in Harpswell, Maine. Beginning in 2017 Ann has shared her love of boats with local kids, building traditional wooden skiffs and continuing a long tradition of boatbuilding in coastal Maine communities. She accepts occasional commissions for custom cabinetry and furniture, and is teaming up once more with Lynette Breton to offer a carving workshop for women in spring 2020.
